Zambia, Mozambique Strengthen Economic Ties Through OSBPÂ Â
Zambia and Mozambique will officially open the Chanida–Cassacatiza One-Stop Border Post (OSBP) and Cross-Border Interconnection on 21 February 2026. The launch will be led by Zambia’s Minister of Technology and Science, Hon. Felix Mutati, and Mozambique’s Minister of Communications and Digital Transformation, Hon. Américo Muchanga.
The new OSBP marks a major milestone for regional trade, infrastructure development, and closer Zambia–Mozambique cooperation. By combining customs, immigration, and border controls into a single, streamlined system, the facility is expected to cut border clearance times, lower costs for businesses, and make cross-border trade faster and more efficient.
Strategically positioned, the Chanida–Cassacatiza border links Zambia to Mozambique’s Beira and Nacala ports, creating a key corridor for regional and international trade. The OSBP is expected to accelerate the movement of goods, strengthen regional value chains, and boost the competitiveness of Zambian exports.
The project also promises to stimulate local economies and create jobs, particularly in Eastern Province and surrounding communities. Logistics, transport, agriculture, and related services are set to benefit from the increased trade activity.
The launch comes alongside investments in roads, modernised border facilities, and upgraded digital systems, reinforcing the two governments’ push to build modern infrastructure as a foundation for economic growth.
Beyond trade, the OSBP strengthens bilateral ties, reduces transport costs, improves revenue collection, increases foreign exchange earnings, and boosts investor confidence in the two countries' reform agenda.
